Since it embraced a Mediterranean identity in 2007, Taormina Film Fest has committed itself to promoting the cinema of Mediterranean countries on an international scale. We strongly believe that film represents a powerful medium for promoting culture, as it demonstrates the surprising proximity of cultures that only seem to be very different from each other.
Following the celebration of the cinema of Egypt (2007), Turkey (2008), France (2009) and Spain (2010), Taormina Film Fest is proud to dedicate 2011 to the films and culture of North Africa. We salute Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco as this year’s Guests of Honor with a week-long retrospective of contemporary films chosen from the most important productions of the last six years. Festivities culminate in a Gran Galà Maghreb in the Teatro Antico, in the presence of the entire delegation.
