6/7/2009 - Taormina Film Fest in Sicily makes its bow

2009 marks a turning point in the 55-year history of the Taormina film festival, when it will be relaunched by the Taormina Arte Committee, in agreement with Sicily’s regional tourism board and festival director Deborah Young, as the Taormina Film Fest in Sicily. For the first time, the festival will screen films in three other Sicilian locations the same week as the main event in Taormina. Taking the festival to Palermo, Siracusa and Palma di Montechiaro is the realization of a common dream:  to share with others on the island our programs, our ideas and our vision of cinema.

The four locations will be linked by satellite hook-up on key evenings, for example for the Carlinhos Brown concert in Taormina or the Brazilian gala in Siracusa. In this way festival-goers will be united in a common emotion, whatever city they’re in!

With four locations spread out around Sicily, more viewers will have access to the festival than ever before. This is a new model of film festival that we are proposing, aiming to attract large audience with lively, entertaining summer programs while providing a major attraction for tourism around the island.
