5/26/2010 - Taormina FilmFest with Toy Story 3 in 3D
Taormina’s famous Teatro Antico, the location of the breath-taking evening screenings at the Taormina Film Fest in Sicily, is about to become the first historical monument to host a film screening in 3D. Toy Story 3, produced by Pixar Animation and released worldwide by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, is this summer’s most important release and will be seen by an audience of more than 3,000 viewers in its European première on June 12, opening night of the 56th Taormina Film Fest, in the 2,300-year-old Teatro Antico, considered one of the most beautiful in the world and in use since Greco-Roman times. The Teatro Antico boasts extraordinary acoustics and a giant screen, overlooking the Mediterranean sea and the active volcano Mount Etna. This historic screening, which will make use of two projectors and more than 3,000 3D glasses, is sponsored by the Cinemeccanica Digital Division of Barco. It will be screened in the original English, with Italian subtitles on the 3D print. Directed by Lee Unkrich, Toy Story 3 is the third film of the series, following the huge success of Toy Story (1995) and Toy Story 2 (1999). Produced by Pixar Animation Studios, it will be commercially released in the U.S. on June 18, 2010.
