Formed in 1996 by Murat Ertel, Levent Akman and Emre Onel, the band has always distinguished itself for an open development to the collaboration with musicians and artists from other fields. The relationships with cinema and theatre are a constant of the work of Baba Zula, that realized a lot of soundtracks of films and pieces of theatre. The most known collaborations in Europe are that with “west” musicians, like the famous magician of dub Mad Professor, a Londoner of Jamaican origin. Politically explicit texts are often accompanied by a “progressive” but simultaneously “visceral” sound. The concert on Friday the 20th at the Teatro Antico in Taormina is an occasion to see them live in Italy, in a show with the “psycho-belly dancers” that characterise their performances, and that promises to be of a strong emotional and visual impact. It is a great pleasure to introduce the public of Taormina to the new Turkish cinema- says the Festival director Deborah Young- Turkey is now the most exciting and vibrating Mediterranean filmmaker, and it was very easy to find films produced in the last three years that deserves to be projected. Atilla Dorsay the famous film critic that selected this films will be with us to present the retrospective. The tribute to the Turkish cinema will culminate tomorrow in a big gala, a night of music, culture and cinema in the Teatro Antico with the main actors, actress and directors of the country. I have to make a special acknowledgment to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and to the Turkish Embassy in Rome for their generous and enthusiastic support to this section.
