:: PLOT

Milan. Today. A newborn baby abandoned in the park is entrusted by a man to Caterina, a young nun who is about to declare her vows. Caterina brings the child to a hospital but can’t stop thinking about it. She goes visit the infant and feels the urge to know more. Starting her investigation from the sweater that wrapped the toddler, Caterina finds her way to the laundry shop of Ernesto, a moody and lonely man. Ernesto explains he had left that sweater at the house of Teresa, a girl that worked in his shop. Caterina wants to find the baby’s mother, while Ernesto would want to close the whole story as soon as possible. The possibility of being the child’s father makes him have the most unusual reactions. In another part of the town, Teresa is looking for a place to stay. She meets an exboyfriend, Gabriele, a police cop, who invites him to stay at his place. Meanwhile Caterina and Ernesto – who found out he isn’t the child’s father – still see each other to exchange information. Ernesto discovers that Teresa will be going to the wedding of a common friend. They decide to go to the wedding together. Caterina chooses not to wear her habit and at the party she walks over to Teresa, whispering a few words about the newborn child. Teresa bursts out crying.

:: BIOGRAHY

Born in Ascoli Piceno in 1953, Giuseppe Piccioni graduated in Sociology after attending the Film School established by Gaumont. While working in advertising, in 1982 he shot his first short film Il prologo, then a video, Voglio andare via. As a screenwriter, he co-wrote Il volo directed by Valerio Jalongo, an episode of Juke box, a feature film of 1987, made up of short episodes signed by young directors. After opening the production company Vertigo, he directed his first feature film, Il grande Blek that obtained a warm reaction of the critics and many awards, like a Nastro d’argento and the De Sica Award for Young Italian Directors. The film was then followed by others: Chiedi la luna (1991), with Margherita Buy and Giulio Scarpati; Condannato a nozze (1993); and Cuori al verde (1996), a soursweet comedy on three middle-class forty-year-olders in crisis. He then shot Fuori dal mondo (2000), winner of many awards - 9 at the David di Donatello, the Italian Oscars. In 2001, after the success of Fuori dal mondo (2000), Piccioni directed Luce dei miei occhi with Sandra Ceccarelli and Luigi Lo Cascio.
