:: PLOT

A tale of sex and royal intrigue revealing the little-known story of Mary Boleyn, who was mistress to King Henry VIII before he married her sister, Anne. The film tells how the happily married Mary is forced by her family to become Henry VIII's mistress after catching his eye at Court. Initially horrified by her predicament, she quickly falls in love with the young King but, whilst she is pregnant and in confinement, the King's wandering eye turns to her ruthless, ambitious sister and their scheming relations - including her brother George - make her step aside so Anne can manoeuvre herself into becoming Queen.

:: BIOGRAPHY

PHILIPPA LOWTHORPE
She built her reputation as a documentary maker with award winning films such as Enniskillen, about an IRA bomb which devastated an Irish community, and Three Salons at the Seaside, her cult film set in a Blackpool hairdressers. She won the “Women in Film and TV” award for Creative Originality in 2001 and went on to make her first feature length drama The Other Boleyn Girl, produced by Ruth Caleb for BBC Films in 2002.
