:: BNL - The Importance of Cinema

The relationship between BNL and the cinematographic world has been going on for over 60 years. If, in the past, it acted as a bank financing public funds, nowadays, BNL is a private credit agency, a bank which has always offered and still offers its knowledge and know how, enhancing the expansion of this important branch of the Italian economy and culture. In fact, BNL provides a sound financial support for the entire process involved in the cinematographic industry, starting from the planning stage till the realisation, distribution and fruition phases. From the settings to the cinemas, not forgetting the various technologies, the casting process, and the production stage.

During the past three years, BNL officially sponsored the Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica in Venice, and, thanks to this unique experience, BNL can now be considered a leader in Italy with regard to cinematographic production. This year, BNL has again and more firmly decided to fasten its ties to the cinema by starting a collaboration with the Sicilian festival, which has been in fact assigned a new denomination, Taormina BNL Film Fest. The festival represents the confluence point between the instances of quality and market, trends and productions from other countries, and it is also an important event for young film-makers as it promotes new languages and culture for the cinema. Starting from this year, the Sicilian event, thanks to BNL, is even richer in new contents. Two prizes for the emerging cinema will be awarded by a qualified international jury panel, the BNL - International Short Film Award to the best short-film chosen among those realised by authors coming from all over the world, and the BNL - I Corti Siciliani to the best short-film realised by a film-maker born or living in Sicily. The participation of BNL to the Sicilian event is part of a wider cultural project "Le Radici del Futuro", which has a term of three years and will be concluded in the year 2003 when BNL celebrates its first 90 years. The project consists of a series of conventions, talk shows, publications, exhibitions, performances and expositions touching various sectors, from cinema to music, from economy and society to the arts. BNL - Banca Nazionale del Lavoro - was founded in 1913, it is currently quoted at the Milan Stock Exchange (Mib30), it is amongst the principal Italian banks and one of the first 100 banks in the world. BNL is a bank specialized in offering its clients a wide range of products and various services and responding techniques capable of dealing with the financial and bank exigencies of private individuals, firms, and public administrations.
