:: PLOT

Set in Armagh Women's Prison in Northern Ireland at the height of the "Dirty Protest" during the Republican women prisoner's fight for political status, Silent Grace is the virtually untold story of the women's involvement in the harrowing Hunger Strikes of 1980-81.

:: BIOGRAHY

Maeve Murphy was born and brought up in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Educated at Cambridge University, England. Maeve's background is in the theatre and she was a co-founder of the theatre company “Trouble and Strife” in London. Maeve directed the NIFC premiere short film Salvage which was premiered at the Cork Film Festival and was distributed by B.F.I and screened on RTE. It was nominated for the Shine Award for Best Short Film and for the Imaginaria Special Award. Her B.F.I., Northern Ireland lottery short, Amazing Grace, was premiered at the Edinburgh film festival, shown in London and Galway and has recently been screened repeatedly on Channel 4's Film Four. Silent Grace is Maeve's debut feature film.. "Silent Grace" is based on the award winning play "Now and at the Hour of our Death", which she co-wrote with other members of Trouble and Strife.
