A story about a family of Sicilian fishermen from Aci Trezza, exploited by a group of merchants. Resolute in their fight against this oppression, the raise a mortgage on their home to buy a boat and work independently. But even the elements are against them: a storm destroys the boat. Having lost their home, the family breaks up; the unfortunate fishermen are reduced to an even more miserable existence, and are forced to go back to their old job, condemned, without hope, to what seems to be an inevitable destiny.
